LA MIRADA, Calif – The Regis University Women's Basketball team prevailed over Biola University, Saturday afternoon, in La Mirada California. The Rangers improve to 2-2, while the Eagles fall to 0-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fiona Snashall scored the first points for the Rangers, a layup assisted by
Jessica Bollwahn. Then the Eagles caught flight with back-to-back three-pointers, taking the lead 9-5. After a three-minute scoring drought for both teams,
Erin Fry closed the gap with a pair of free throws. Biola continued their lead from beyond the arc, but
Athena Saragoza knocked down a pair of free throws to end the quarter, 12-14.
Saragoza started off hot with a triple to take the lead, 15-14. Both teams traded baskets, but Bollwahn and Fry would score from behind the arc, with Rangers up -24-20. However, the Eagles did not give up, with two layups taking it 29-26. Fry would tie it half with a three-pointer, 29-29.
Eagles would score the first four points of the half before Bollwahn's layup put the Rangers back on the board. Regis would go on a seven-point run trying to close out the Eagles however Biola would make a jumper to close out the third.
The Rangers came out early in the fourth, going on an eight-point run to take the lead 50-42. The Eagles answered back with back-to-back threes. But it wasn't enough. Snashall extended RU's lead and closed out the game with a layup. The Rangers won 59-53.
GAME NOTES
Fry totaled 19 points on the night.
Snashall had 11 points with nine rebounds and three steels.
Saragoza led RU with four assists.
Eagles outshot the Rangers 40.4%- 31.0% from the floor and 34.8%-30.4% from the three.
