DENVER, Colo. -- The Regis University Women's Basketball team beat Colorado Mesa University (CMU) 63-61 Thursday night in the Regis Fieldhouse. With the win, the Rangers move to 5-4 overall (3-0 RMAC), while the Mavericks fall to 5-3 overall (1-2 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fiona Snashall scored the first and last points of the game for the Rangers from the free-throw line. Snashall recorded 15 points in the contest, the second-most for the Rangers following guard Erin Fry, who tallied 19.
A back-and-forth game from start to finish, the Rangers led 17-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Mavericks answered quickly, kicking off second-quarter scoring with a layup. Three minutes into the second, the Rangers reclaimed a lead that they held onto for the remainder of the quarter, the home team's longest stretch on top in the game.
Though the Rangers led 33-32 entering the third quarter, the Mavericks set the pace for much of the second half. The visiting team held their largest lead of the night, a seven-point advantage over the Rangers, with 6:54 remaining in the game. The Maverick's advantage dissipated quickly as the Rangers pulled within three points of the visiting team with just over one minute to play.
Coming off a Ranger timeout with 37 seconds left, Fry tied the game, finishing a layup through contact and sinking the and-one free throw. On the other end of the ball, the Rangers ran out the Maverick's 30-second shot clock, regaining possession with less than two seconds left to find the net.
Fouled taking a shot off the Ranger's inbound play, Snashall took the free throw line with 1.3 seconds left. She finished both free throws, bringing the Rangers to their final 63-61 score. Snashall also led the Rangers in rebounds, collecting 10.
GAME NOTES
Advancing to 3-0 in conference play, the Rangers are one of only three undefeated RMAC teams.
