SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Regis University Women's Volleyball team captured their first RMAC win of the year on Saturday afternoon, topping Black Hills State University (SD), 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-15).
The Rangers improve to 3-7 (1-1 RMAC), while the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-6 (0-2 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Halle Theis would supply the early offense for the Rangers, followed by a Braiziah Dixon kill that made the score 7-5. The Yellow Jackets continued to commit errors that kept the Rangers close in tandem with a Dixon service ace. While Theis put RU ahead 21-10, BHS put together a late run for the 25-23 win.
Reagan Hickey's ace and kill gave RU an early lead in the second, while Dixon started a five point run with a kill, a solo block, and a Bryn McNair assisted block. Dixon had back-to-back aces, then Bre Skala added two more. Amelia Davis ended the set 25-15 with a solo block.
Dixon and Lindsey Cure both had solo blocks early in the third to keep the defensive momentum going, and Theis aced a serve as RU went up 8-4. However, Black Hills put together a run that gave them the 15-12 advantage that would be ended by a Theis kill. Another Cure solo block brought the score to 20-19 in Regis' favor, and two kills from Davis helped the Rangers hold on for the 26-24 win.
In the fourth, Theis recorded an ace followed by a McNair block, and a Davis kill put RU up 10-6. Yellow Jacket errors and kills from Dixon and Theis put Regis in a commanding lead that was punctuated with a Cure kill for the 25-15 win.
Head Coach Joel List had this to say of the win:
"Our team came out to compete today and I thought they did a good job of doing that throughout the whole match. Halle did a great job back on the outside today. Reagan to a nice job getting our middles involved as well."
