Rangers Earn First Win of the Season, Down Colorado Mines 2-0

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team captured their first win of the season with a 2-0 win at Colorado School of Mines Thursday night in their RMAC opener.

RU improves to 1-1-5, while CSM falls to 1-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rangers took control of the game early, as Elias Taubo found Ignacio Bellina for a goal just 4:51 into the match. After RU keeper Greg Squire saved an Oredigger attempt in the 14th minute, the defenses stepped up, with no shots by either team for over 15 minutes. However, at 29:09, Taubo set up Bellina for the second time of the night, putting RU up 2-0. CSM took four more shots to close out the half, with Squire saving the only one on target to keep the score 2-0 going into the break.

"We honestly came out a bit slow, but took advantage of the opportunities we had," said Head Coach Taylor Diem. "The message at halftime was to not grow complacent, and treat it like a new 45 of work that needed to be done."

Bellina had a shot blocked to start the second, and Taubo landed an attempt on goal as RU kept the momentum. Stanley Nash added a shot on goal of his own late in the half, but the Orediggers took the last four shots of the match. However, they were all off target, and Regis won, 2-0.

"I thought we did come out of the half really strong, but fell off a bit toward the end," continued Diem. "We invited some pressure in the last 20 minutes or so. Regardless, we are really happy with three points on the road against a tough RMAC opponent, and our second clean sheet in a row.
