CHADRON, Neb. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team defeated Chadron State College (Neb.) on the road Saturday afternoon, 76-70. The Rangers improve to 6-8 (4-2 RMAC) while the Eagles fall to 6-8 (2-4 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kobe Sanders started the scoring for the Rangers with a three, but Chadron would answer with a jumper going on a five-point run. With the Eagles up 15-10, Regis answered with a pair of free throws and a layup from
Eddy Egun. Both teams continued to trade baskets,
Trey Bryant would hit one from downtown, and Chigozie Achara would score in the paint, as RU led 21-19.
Aaron Ofstun and Bryant would score from behind the arc extending Regis's lead 32-26. Chadron would take back the momentum late in the period, but RU was still ahead, 34-33, at the half.
Achara would score first in the second half with a layup, followed by Egun with a pair of free throws.
Chase Mayo Harmon would get a tip in putting RU on top, 51-47, and the Rangers would go on an eight-point run lead by Mayo Harmon's triple and free throws. The Rangers would hit their free throws down the stretch, closing the game 76-70.
"It's good to get the result with all the work that these men have been putting in. We've been growing up as a unit. We were very tough tonight and this whole week… I'm proud of the guys for that, and they deserve this outcome today," said Head Coach Brady Berguson.
GAME NOTES
Four Rangers scored in double-digit figures, led by Bryant with 20 points.
Sanders dished out five assists.
Chadron outshot Regis 47.3% to 39.6% from the floor, but Rangers outshot the Eagles 34.6% to 28.6% from three.
