Saragoza’s 30-point night not enough for Rangers Win

DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University Women's Basketball team fell on the road to Metropolitan State University of Denver, Tuesday night, in a RMAC matchup, 68-74. The Rangers fall to 7-9 (5-4 RMAC), while the Roadrunners improve to 6-11 (3-4 RMAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Taylin Serlen got the scoring started for RU with an and-one, assisted by Addison Branscum. The Roadrunners seized the momentum, going on a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead. Athena Saragoza and Erin Fry would find the back of the net, but MSU had the final say of the quarter nailing one from behind the arc, 22-13 Metro.
 
Saragoza scored the first eight points of the quarter for RU, attempting to swing the momentum back in their favor, but it wasn't enough. Metro leads 35-21. MSU would outscore Regis in the second quarter, leading 40-24 at the half.
 
Rangers looked to change the momentum coming out of the half, with Fry finding Saragoza on a fast break and corner three. The Roadrunners kept responding, going on an 8-0 run. Jessica Bollwahn and Fry hit key jumpers to close out the third quarter, with MSU Denver leading 62-42.
 
Saragoza started the 17-point run for Regis, hitting two from beyond the arc. Fry would nail an and one three, closing in on the Roadrunners lead 67-60. Serlen would get a tip-in, followed by Saragozaz layup putting Regis within two, 68-70. Roadrunners took control of the final seconds, nailing key free throws to win 74-68.
 
GAME NOTES
 
Saragoza led RU with 32 points, followed by Fry's 13.
 
Bollwahn led the Rangers in rebounds, grabbing 14.
 
Rangers out rebounded Metro 50 to 40.
 
Three Roadrunners would score double digits led by Nevaeh Millard 22 points.
 
Regis outshot the Roadrunners 41.5% to 34.2% from the field but fell short 25.0% to 32.3% from three.
