DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team dropped a home RMAC contest to Colorado School of Mines, 60-49, Saturday afternoon. The Rangers fall to 7-10 (5-5 RMAC), while the Orediggers climb to 7-11 (5-5 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers would come out of the game hot, as Athena Saragoza scored the first seven points for the Rangers, and Taylin Shipman's layup brought the score to 13-5. However, the Orediggers responded, scoring the final seven points of the period, leaving the score at 13-12 after one.
While Erin Fry would score from deep to start the second, and Addison Branscum stole the ball, leading to a fast break layup, Mines battles back to take a 22-18 lead. Fry ended the run with a pair from the line, but CSM still led, 26-20 going into halftime.
After Colorado School of Mines converted two quick layups in the third, a Taylin Serlen block led to a Mary Crossland three. Fry and Serlen earned trips to the line, and Jessica Bollwahn scored in the paint as Regis took back the advantage, 37-35. The teams would go into the deciding period, tied, 38-38.
Mines grabbed momentum back early in the fourth, building an eight point lead. Serlen got Regis back on the board, and Shipman added a triple, but the Rangers were unable to mount a late comeback, as CSM hit their free throws late to win, 60-49.
GAME NOTES
· Fry and Shipman each scored 11 for the Rangers, while Saragoza scored 10. Jenna Siebert led all players with 27 points
· Branscum grabbed eight rebounds
· Bollwahn dished five assists, while serlen swatted two shots
· CSM shot better from the floor, 36% - 31%, and from deep, 28% - 20%, while Regis was better from the free throw line, 80% - 63%
