SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team dropped an RMAC matchup at Black Hills State University (SD), 90-73 on Thursday night. The Rangers now sit at 5-8 (3-2 RMAC), while the Yellow Jackets climb to 8-5 (4-1 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Eddy Egun would get rolling right away, hitting a three-pointer 10 seconds into the game. However, after a Chi Achara free throw, Black Hills went on a 12-0 run to take an 18-6 lead. Chase Mayo Harmon converted an and-one to end the run, and Jalen Brown followed suite after an offensive board. Jalen Page's layup capped the Rangers 11-0 run to bring the game within one, 17-18. Egun led the rangers scoring through the remainder of the half, as Regis kept the game within single digits, but was unable to take the lead. Mayo Harmon throw down a dunk, and Brown added a late layup, but RU trailed 39-44 going into the break.
Black Hills came out hot in the second, quickly building their lead to 13 points. Kobe Sanders hit two from the charity stripe, as did Brown and Trey Bryant, but the Yellow Jacket's lead continued to grow. Mayo Harmon converted another and-one on a fast break, and earned a steal that led to a Bryant layup. Brown scored twice in the final 30 seconds, once off a Page steal, but RU fell, 90-73.
"We put together 40 minutes of toughness and playing hard," said Head Coach Brady Bergeson. "We did not execute offensively for 40, and we allowed a hot shooter to get too many looks. We are in a process of figuring out who we are and how we have to play. Growth is rarely painless."
