Rangers Post 1-1 Draw with MSUD

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Soccer team, who were receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, recorded a 1-1 draw with Metropolitan State University Denver on Thursday night. The Rangers move to 8-2-3 (4-1-2 RMAC) on the year, while the Roadrunners stand at 1-7-4 (1-4-2 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Regis started the match with strong offensive pressure, as Elsa Nolen and Natalie Bunch landed shots on goal in the first four minutes. Not even a minute later, Nolen added another, and Fernanda Rodriguez recorded her first of the match, but the match remained scoreless. MSUD took their first shot at 8:08, and first shot on goal at 29:10. After Brooke Castillo's attempt was saved, the Roadrunners closed out the half with two final shots, one saved by Helen Stegner.

Early in the second half, Rodriguez put a shot on goal, then at 57:45, Gianna Sparaco put up a ball from midfield to Rodriguez, who centered the ball to Natalie Bunch for the Ranger goal.

"Gianna is really a special player," said head coach Jeffery Frykholm. "She was great on both sides of the ball tonight, and I told her we wouldn't be where we are on the season or in the game without her."

From there, the Roadrunners pushed the offensive pressure, including two shots on goal, before one by Castillo's shot on target at 81:18. MSUD evened the score with less than seven minutes left, and the Rangers only managed one more shot to end the match, one by Bunch that was wide left.

"It was unfortunate to not get the win, but I did see a lot of good things tonight," continued Frykholm. "We have had to fight a lot of injuries lately, and have had a lot of players set up."
