DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Soccer team, who were receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, recorded a 1-1 draw with Colorado Christian Sunday afternoon. The Rangers move to 8-2-4 (4-1-3 RMAC) on the year, while the Cougars stand at 1-6-6 (0-3-5 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers opened the match with strong offensive pressure, as
Eilidh Takekawa fired a shot on goal just two minutes in. The Cougars responded with two attempts of their own, one of which was stopped by goalkeeper
Maggie Payne. Over the next 20 minutes, RU continued to press, adding three more shots. Both teams traded opportunities throughout the half, but neither could capitalize, sending the match into halftime scoreless.
CCU came out aggressively in the second half, earning the first shot on goal, but
Kayla Arucan made the save to keep the game even. Just a minute later,
Natalie Bunch and Takekawa each added shots for the Rangers as the offense kept up the pressure. In the 69th minute, Bunch broke through, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Fernanda Rodriguez to give Regis the lead. However, with ten minutes remaining, the Cougars answered back to even the score at 1-1. Bunch had one final opportunity late in the game, but her shot was turned away as the match ended in a draw.
