Rangers Drop Road Match to UCCS Despite Strong Third-Set Rally

DENVER, Colo- The Regis University Volleyball team fell to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in an RMAC match-up on Saturday, 1-3 (9-25, 23-25, 25-23, 13-25 ). The Rangers fall to 1-13 (1-5 RMAC) on the season while the Mountain Lions improve to, 12-1 (4-1 RMAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Isabella Smith and Sabrina Landman opened the scoring for the Rangers, but the Mountain Lions quickly surged ahead, 9-4. A kill from Bailey Nichols and a service ace gave Regis a brief spark, yet UCCS maintained control to take the first set, 25-9.
 
In the second, Kendal Allaire put down an early kill, and Landman tied things up at 8-8. The Mountain Lions responded with a run, but back-to-back kills from Smith and Braiziah Dixon brought the Rangers back within two, 19-17. Despite a late push fueled by another Landman kill and UCCS errors, Regis narrowly dropped the set, 25-23.
 
The Rangers came out strong in the third, as a block from Dixon ignited a five-point run to give RU a 10-6 advantage. UCCS battled back, but kills from Smith and Dixon kept the set even at 18-all. After trading points late, Nichols sealed the set with an ace, and the Rangers stayed alive with a 25-23 win to force a fourth.
 
Smith opened the scoring for the Rangers, but the Mountain Lions quickly took control with an early 8-3 lead. Smith added another kill for Regis, yet UCCS maintained their momentum throughout the set, closing out the fourth 25-13 to take the match.
 
GAME NOTES
 
Smith led the game with 20 kills.
 
Nichols dished out 28 assists.
 
Krissy Brei had 13 digs.
 
Dixon totaled two blocks.

The Rangers continue for another road weekend starting Friday (10/11) at 6:00pm against  New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
