Stegner Posts Double-Digit Saves in Defensive Stalemate

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Regis University Women's Soccer team, ranked #25 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, recorded a 0-0 draw with Westminster University (Utah) on Thursday night. The Rangers move to 8-1-2 (4-0-1 RMAC), while the Griffins sit at 3-1-4 (0-1-4 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Westminster pushed the offensive pace early in the match, taking the first six shots of the match over the first 20 minutes. Helen Stegner saved the four that were on goal. After a corner kick, WU closed out the half with three more shots, one saved by Stegner.

Two minutes into the second, Fernanda Rodríguez attempted RU's first shot, and Natale Bunch followed that with a shot on goal. The squads traded a variety of fouls in the physical matchup, and in the 69th minute, Bunch narrowly missed off the left post. After two more Stegner saves, Elsa Nolen put a try on target, and Rodriguez out one out top. Stegner ended the game with two more saves, and Rodriguez recorded one final shot in the 0-0 tie.

GAME NOTES

·         Regis totaled six shots, and Westminster attempted 20

·         Stegner posted 10 saved, tied for the eighth-highest total in program history

·         WU took five more corners than RU, 6-1
