GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Soccer team dropped a road match to #20 Colorado Mesa University on Sunday afternoon, 0-2. The Rangers fall to 9-4-4 (5-3-3 RMAC), while the Mavericks improve to 12-2-2 (8-0-2 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks would not take long to attempt the first shot of the match, an on-target shot saved by Helen Stegner :28 seconds in. After a trio of CMU corner kicks, a Maverick shot was blocked. That's when Natalie Bunch took the first shot for Regis, but the on-goal shot was saved. Mesa broke the tie with a goal by Mari Ige at 17:26. A pair of RU breaks were negated by offsides, while Stegner saved another SOG. However, the Rangers did not manage another shot the rest of the half.
The Mesa defense continued to suffocate in the second half, as the Mavericks took the first six shots of the period, including their second goal at 68:33. Quickly after the goal, Brielle Bickham took a shot, Maggie Payne saved a goal, and Fernanda Rodriguez landed a try on target. Payne saved one final shot to end the match, but Regis fell 0-2.
