GREELEY, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team battled NCAA Division I University of Northern Colorado on Saturday evening, but lost on the road, 104-63. The Rangers fall to 1-4 on the year, while the Bears improve to 7-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers came into the game battling a litany of injuries, fielding just six healthy players. However, that did not deter Myles Shields who started the game with a three and a dunk for the Rangers. While the Bears were able to add to their lead, Matt Yost pulled down a pair of rebounds, recorded a steal, and finished on a layup in the paint. Gunner Walters hit a step back jumper, then set up a layup for Logan Flores-Peoples. Flores-Peoples intercepted a UNC pass, which led to a Yost put-back layup, however, back-to-back threes extended Northern Colorado's lead to 38-13. Walters responded with a three of his own, and while the Rangers ended the half with a Cooper Frith block and Dylan Forbord jumper, RU still trailed, 19-59.
Walters assisted a Forbord dunk from the ground, then hit a pull-up J to start the second half, while Yost converted two layups. The offense continued to play well in the second behind a Frith jumper, and Forbord hitting both on a trip to the stripe. Forbord continued to lead the offense, hitting a Walters-assisted three, and two more layups. Shields threw down a pair of dunk late in the game, one on a fast break steal. The game ended with triples from Yost and Walters, but the Rangers fell, 104-63.
