GRAND JUNCTION, Colo- The Regis University Volleyball team fell to Colorado Mesa University Saturday, 1-3 (22-25, 16-25, 25-23, 10-25). The Rangers move to 3-21 (2-9 RMAC) on the season, while the Mavericks improve to 14-9 (8-4 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers opened the match strong with early kills from Brooke Sanford and Kendal Allaire, followed by one from Sabrina Landman to take a 4-0 lead. Colorado Mesa battled back to even the score at 16-16, but Braiziah Dixon answered with a block and another kill from Landman to regain momentum. Despite a late push, Isabella Smith landed the final kill for Regis before the Mavericks closed out the set, 25-22.
Dixon and Allaire got things going in the second with a pair of kills, joined by another from Landman, though the Rangers trailed 5-9 early. The Mavericks found their rhythm with a seven-point run, but Landman stopped the surge with a kill to keep Regis within reach. Colorado Mesa maintained control to take the second set, 25-16.
Regis responded in the third with renewed energy as Smith sparked a seven-point run with back-to-back kills, giving the Rangers a 12-8 advantage. Sanford added a kill and Smith delivered an ace to extend the lead to 18-14. Smith sealed the set with another kill, sending the match to a fourth after a 25-23 win for the Rangers.
Bailey Nichols opened the fourth with a kill, followed by one from Alayna Pruitt, but the Mavericks quickly pulled ahead 11-6. Colorado Mesa carried their momentum the rest of the way, limiting Regis's opportunities and taking the final set 25-10.
GAME NOTES
Smith recorded a double double with 17 kills and 14 digs.
Dixon totaled four blocks.
Nichols dished 31 assists.
Krissy Brei led RU with 19 digs.
