DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team defeats South Dakota Mines University, 70-57, in an RMAC face off Thursday night. The Rangers improve to 15-8 (13-2 RMAC), while the Hard Rockers fall to 4-18 (4-10 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jalen Page started the scoring for the Rangers, but the Hardrockers jumped out to a six-point run, going up 8-2. RU took back the lead with help from
Eddy Egun, a three from
Chase Mayo Harmon, and a pair of free throws from
Quinn Lambert. Both teams continued trading baskets, with back-to-back layups from
Jalen Brown and a jumper from Egun, giving RU the lead at 27-26. South Dakota Mines ended the half with an eight-point run, leading at the break 34-28.
Egun started the second half with two back-to-back threes, both assisted by Sanders. South Dakota Mines answered with a ten-point run, capped off with a triple and a fast break layup from Brown. RU took control, going on a 23-point run, which started with Lambert's layup, 12 points from Brown, and a three from Mayo Harmon. Brown nailed two free throws to end the game, and the Rangers won 70-57.
"Tonight was really a tough game. We had a hard time with our defensive communication in the first half," said Head Coach
Brady Bergeson. "But I thought our adjustments as well as our energy in the second half propelled us when we needed it."
GAME NOTES
Brown led RU with a career performance double-double, 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Mayo Harmon followed with 13 points and Egun totaled 10.
Sanders dished four assists.
RU outshot the Hardrockers 36.4% to 46.2% from the field and 34.8% to 47.1% from three.
