DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team fell to Black Hills State University (S.D.), 59-67, on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers fall to 10-13 (8-8 RMAC), while the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-8 (11-5 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Yellow Jackets were the first on board, but RU answered with layups from
Athena Saragoza and
Fiona Snashall. Black Hills came down and scored a triple and a layup, taking the lead, 11-6.
Erin Fry tried to change the momentum by hitting one from downtown, but the Yellow Jackets had the answer. Black Hills went on a ten-point run, leading 24-12 after the first.
Fry started the scoring for Regis with a triple, set up by Snashall, and a layup from
Jessica Bollwahn, cutting the lead to 11. Fry then scored in the paint, followed by two free throws.
Addison Branscum was the last to score in the second, with over a minute left. RU was down 34-25 at the half.
Black Hills found the rim first in the third, but
Taylin Serlen scored in the paint, and Saragoza hit one from beyond the line, cutting the Yellow Jackets' lead to eight. Both teams went into a two-and-a-half-minute scoring drought until the Yellow Jackets hit two free throws. Fry closed the third with one from deep, with the Rangers down 50-41.
The Yellow Jackets came out early, scoring the first six points until Serlen was found in the paint for four points. The Rangers tried to make a late run, with Snashall and Bollwahn scoring in the paint, and a three and fast-break layup from Saragoza. However, the Yellow Jackets nailed key free throws down the stretch, and the Rangers fell 67-59.
GAME NOTES
Fry led RU with 14 points and 5 assists, followed by Saragoza 13 points.
Snashall grabbed six rebounds.
Serlen totaled 10 points and three steals.
Five Yellow Jackets ended in double digits.
Black Hills out rebounded Regis 37-28.
