Rangers Fall Short at Colorado School of Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team dropped a road RMAC matchup with Colorado School of Mines, 65-61, on Thursday night. The Rangers fall to 10-14 (8-9 RMAC) and the Orediggers climb to 12-14 (10-8 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jessica Bollwahn's pull up scored the first points of the game for the Rangers, while Erin Fry scored the next four points, and Athena Saragoza added a three for the 9-4 lead. Mary Crossland scored form deep before Saragoza added another triple, and following free throws from Fry and Bollwahn, Regis led, 21-19 after one.

Thalia Daniels scored the first five points of the second period behind a Taylin Serlen assisted jumper, and Saragoza assisted three. Addison Branscum then hit two form the line, and a jumper, but RU did not score for the final three minutes of the half, and led by only two, 34-32, going into halftime.

The Orediggers took the lead out of the half with a three from Peyton Freiermuth, and the teams traded baskets, Regis led by Saragoza and Serlen. Four minutes passed before the next score from either team, and and-one from Fry. She continued to lead the Rangers, scoring the final eight points of the period for RU, as they still led by two, 46-44 going into the final period.

Fry continued into the fourth with a step back jumper and a three, but Mines tied the match at 51-51 with 6:23 left in the game. The Orediggers would go on a 7-0 run to push the score to 60-54, but Fry ended that with a pair of free throws, and Saragoza added a three afer that. With under 30 seconds, Fry found Fiona Snashall for a layup to close the deficit to 62-61. CSM hit just one free throw, but an offensive foul gave them back possession, and Mines hit their free throws late for the 65-61 win.
