Rangers Defeat Road Runners in Overtime Thriller on Senior Day

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team defeated, Metropolitan State University of Denver, on Senior Day, 84-79.  The Rangers improve to 11-14 (9-9 RMAC), while the Road Runners fall to 6-16 (5-13 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Taylin Serlen scored first for the Rangers with a tip-in layup, followed by a jumper from Jessica Bollwahn. Serlen grabbed a rebound, and Athena Saragoza nailed a three-pointer, giving the Rangers an 8-5 lead. Fry closed out the quarter with a free throw, leaving RU behind 10-9 going into the second.
 
MSU was the first on the board in the second, scoring the first seven points of the game. Saragoza ended the run with a pair of free throws, followed by a triple from Thalia Daniels, making it 17-14 with RU behind. Mary Crossland hit a three, and Saragoza scored a fastbreak layup. The Road Runners hit back-to-back threes, with MSU up 35-30. Crossland ended the half with a pair of free throws, and RU trailed 35-34 at the break.
 
Saragoza hit a triple to start the third, and Fiona Snashall followed with a jumper. Fry then made two free throws, giving RU a 41-37 lead. Serlen and Saragoza both scored a jumper, but MSU answered with a layup. The Road Runners hit a layup and a triple, bringing the game within one, with RU up 49-48. Fry got a layup to go with three seconds remaining, and RU led 55-52 heading into the fourth.
 
Serlen was the first to score for RU in the fourth with a layup, assisted by Snashall. RU then hit the next seven points, with a triple from Saragoza and layups from Fry and Serlen, giving the Rangers a 62-56 lead. MSU hit a three-pointer and a layup, closing in on the Ranger lead, 64-61. The Road Runners tied the game, but Snashall hit a jumper, and Saragoza nailed another three. MSU hit key free throws and a triple, sending the game into overtime, 71-71.
 
Fry and Saragoza scored the first five points for Regis in overtime, until MSU made two free throws. Fry knocked down four consecutive free throws, giving RU an 82-76 lead. MSU hit a three-pointer, but Fry remained ice-cold from the line. RU won 84-79 in overtime.
 
GAME NOTES
 
Saragoza led RU with 29 points, followed by Fry's 26 points.
 
Serlen recorded a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Snashall grabbed 10 rebounds.
 
Bollwahn dished three assists.
 
MSU was led by Brooklynn Jones with 24 points.

The Rangers will conclude RMAC play with away games, on Thursday night (2/27) at 6:00 pm at Colorado Christian University.
