LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team held on for a 77-74 win over Colorado Christian University on Thursday night. The Rangers improve to 12-14 (10-9 RMAC) while the Cougars fall to 9-18 (7-12 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougars would jump out to quick 10-0 lead, but RU would battle back with a 9-2 run, including a Mary Crossland three and Taylin Serlen layup. Addison Branscum and Serlen added layups late in the period to bring the score to 13-17 after one.
Branscum scored again to start the second quarter, but CCU still pushed their advantage to 24-15. Serlen ended the run with a free throw, followed by a three from Fiona Snashall. Athena Saragoza hit two threes, back-to-back, to bring the score to 25-30, then set up Jessica Bollwahn for another. Snashall converted an and-one to tie the match at 33-33, but Colorado Christian would take a 36-33 lead into halftime.
Snashall scored in the paint early in the third, but after a Crossland three, the Cougars still led, 44-39. Thalia Daniles added a three of her own, and Erin Fry's fifth assist of the game set up a Crossland layup to tie the match at 44-44. Regis took the lead behind a Fry layup, and she would score the Rangers next nine points. Crossland ended the quarter with a layup as Regis led, 55-52.
Saragoza started the fourth with a pair of free throws, but a 6-0 run gave the Cougars the lead. The teams traded buckets, including a three from Bollwahn, and Fry would hit three straight free throws for the 69-63 lead. Colorado Christian would take a late, 72-70 lead, but a clutch three but RU ahead, 73-72. Fry would then hit her free throws late, securing the win, 77-74.
GAME NOTES
· Fry led all players with 21 points, all in the second half,
· Saragoza added 15, while Snashall and Crossland both posted 10
· Nicole Bowlin had 16 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds for the Cougars
· Branscum grabbed 13 rebounds and dished five assists
· Saragoza earned three steals
