Rangers Fall in Overtime Thriller on Senior Day

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team fell at home, 69-78 to Metropolitan State University of Denver, on Senior Day. The Rangers fall to 15-11 (13-5 RMAC), while the Road Runners improve to 19-7- (11-3 RMAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Road Runners were the first to get on the board, followed by RU's Jalen Page scoring in the paint, assisted by Kobe Sanders. MSU Denver then went on a nine-point run until Sanders found Page in the paint, with RU trailing 14-7. Sanders hit a three-pointer, assisted by Trey Bryant, followed by a layup from Jalen Brown and Eddy Egun, putting MSU ahead 21-16. Page and Brown each knocked down jumpers, bringing the score within three. Bryant and Jalen went on a four-point run, taking the lead 31-28 with one minute to go. Bryant closed out the half with two free throws, and the Rangers led 37-31 at the break.
 
Neither team scored in the first two minutes of the second half until Ty Cox nailed a three-pointer, assisted by Sanders. The Rangers continued the momentum with a steal by Bryant, who found Brown for a fast break layup, followed by a jumper from Page, giving RU a 48-37 lead. MSU Denver responded with a seven-point run, tying the score at 54-54. MSU then took the lead with a pair of free throws and a layup, 64-59. Brown hit a triple and a layup, tying the game with a minute to go. Both teams went scoreless after that, and the game went into overtime.
 
MSU Denver scored the first five points in overtime. Bryant then knocked down a pair of free throws, followed by Cox's basket, with RU trailing 71-68. The Road Runners hit a three-pointer and a layup, going ahead 76-68. MSU Denver won in overtime, 78-69.
 
"I'm proud of the composure and grit we showed tonight. We've got a tough basketball team. And we will respond", said Head Coach Brady Bergeson.
 
GAME NOTES
 
RU was led by Brown with 20 points, followed by Page 16 points.
 
Egun, Mayo Harmon and Brown grabbed six rebounds each.
 
Egun totaled four steals.
 
Bryant had three blocks.
 
MSU was led by Brayden Carter with 24 points and Logan Threatt 22 points.

The Rangers will conclude RMAC play with away games, Thursday night (2/27) at 8:00pm at Colorado Christian University.
