Rangers Fall to Mountaineers in RMAC Quarterfinals

GUNNISON, Colo.  -The Regis University Women's Basketball team saw their 2024-25 season come to an end on Tuesday night as the Rangers, seeded No. 7 in the RMAC Women's Basketball Conference Tournament, lost to No. 2 Western Colorado University, 67-51. The Rangers finish with a 13-15 (1-9 RMAC) record, while the Mountaineers move to 21-7 (15-5 RMAC).

Western Colorado will meet No. 6 University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the 7:30 p.m. semifinal game at Colorado Mesa University on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jessica Bollwahn started the game with a three-pointer, followed by one from Erin Fry and a jumper from Athena Saragoza for the 8-7 lead. The Mountaineers then went on an 11-0 run that was broken by a Fiona Snashall jumper, but WCU still led 20-10 after one.

Western Colorado continued to add to their lead before Snashall's assist found Fry for a jumper, and Addison Branscum found Taylin Serlen in the paint. WCU led by as much as 16 in the period, but Serlen had the final basket of the half, and Regis rtialed, 17-31, going into the break.

The Mountaineers started the third with a pair of threes, but Fry responded with two free throws and a paint jumper. She then set up Saragoza for a triple and Bollwahn for a jump shot, but the Rangers could not chip away at the lead. Saragoza hit two from the stripe, and Serlen added a tip-in to leave the score at 34-53 at the end of the quarter.

She added another tip-in to start the fourth, and Bollwahn stole the ball leading to a fastbreak layup. Despite Fry scoring in the paint, and setting up baskets for Bollwahn and Serlen, WCU still led by 15. The Rangers ended the game with threes from Bollwahn and Thalia Daniels, both assisted by Mary Crossland, but WCU prevailed, 67-51.
