DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Volleyball closed out the 2025 Colorado Volleyball Premier Tournament on Saturday.
The Rangers fell in straight sets to Angelo State University, ranked #2 in the most recent AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, 0-3 (9-25, 13-25, 21-25) in the early match. Then, in the late game, lost to Lewis University (Ill.), 1-3 (19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 7-25)
The Rangers fall to 0-8, the Rambells improve to 5-3, and the Flyers move to 4-4.
GAME ONE
The Rangers fell behind early as the Rambells jumped out to a commanding 13-1 lead. Jacie Kaniho sparked RU with a pair of kills, while Isabell Smith and Braiziah Dixon added some momentum. However, ASU controlled the pace throughout and closed out the set decisively, 25-9.
Bailey Nichols opened the set with back-to-back aces to give the Rangers a 5-4 edge. Angelo State quickly regained control, capitalizing on a Ranger error to extend their lead to 14-7. Nichols and Jacie Kaniho answered with key kills to pull RU within 11-17, but another Rambells run sealed the set for ASU, 25-13.
Regis opened strong behind an ace from Dixon and a kill from Brooke Stanford to take a 6-4 lead. The Rangers extended their momentum with an ace from Smith and kills by Kaniho and Alayna Pruitt, pushing ahead 14-8. Angelo State responded with a surge, cutting the deficit to one at 16-15. Despite the early advantage, RU couldn't recover as ASU closed out the final set, 25-21.
GAME NOTES
· Kaniho led RU with six kills.
· Lauryn Uyemura totaled five digs while Smith had 4.
· Ireland Ferguson led all players with 14 kills for Angelo State.
GAME TWO
Braiziah Dixon started the first set of the second match with a kill, followed by one from Alayna Pruitt and a Sabrina Landman-Brooke Sanford block. Bailey Nichols then scored two straight from a Dixon-assisted block and an ace, while a Dixon kill pushed the lead to 9-7. The teams traded points for a stretch, until Jacie Kaniho put down a kill and solo block. But the Flyers took the momentum late with a 6-2 run for the 25-19 win.
Nichols recorded two kills and an ace early in the second to help RU build an 8-3 advantage, but Lewis quickly responded to tie the match at 9-9. Kaniho supplied three kills in a 5-1 run that put Regis up 17-15. And while LU battled back for the 23-0 lead, Dixon took over with three straight kills and, Kaniho ended the set, 25-23.
The momentum carried into the beginning of the third, with Regis scoring the first seven points behind three Kaniho kills and two Dixon aces. The two continued to lead the offense, along with a Pruitt solo block, to a 15-9 lead. But from there, Lewis took over, allowing just three more Regis points, two coming from Dixon, Nichols, and Sanford blocks.
Fueled by the rally, Lewis dominated in the fourth. RU scored off a pair of Kaniho kills, and one from Pruitt, and a few Flyer errors, but lost the set, 25-7/
GAME NOTES
· Kaniho led Regis with 14 kills. Dixon added 10, hitting .364
· Nichols posted a 25-assist, 12-dig double-double
· Krissy Brei (18), Aaliyah Rodrakkwan (13), and Lauryn Uyemura (10) all reached double digit digs as well
· Sanford, Dixon and Nichols all posted two total blocks
