Rangers Fall in Final Match of APU/CUI Tournament

Azusa, Calif- The Regis University Volleyball team fell to California State University-Dominguez Hills on Saturday at the APU/CUI Tournament in California, 3-0 (24-26, 15-25, 15-25). The Rangers fall to 0-4, while the Toros improve to 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Regis opened the first set strong, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead behind back-to-back kills from Sabrina Landman. The teams traded points until the score was knotted at 9-9. The Toros would go on a six-point run until Brooke Sanford would record a kill for the Rangers. RU continued fighting back, tying the set at 24-24 with another kill from Sanford. Cal State Dominguez Hills closed it out to take the opener, 26-24.

The Toros jumped out to an early 8-4 lead. Jacie Kaniho would stop their run, bringing RU some momentum. Cal State Dominguez Hills quickly regained control, going on an eight-point surge to pull away. Brooke Sanford added a kill for the Rangers, but it wasn't enough as the Toros secured set two, 25-15.

Isabella Smith put Regis on the board first, but Cal State Dominguez Hills quickly surged ahead, taking a 12-4 lead. A kill from Kendal Allaire, followed by back-to-back kills from Smith, helped the Rangers gain some momentum, but the Toros maintained control down the stretch, taking the final set, 25-15.

"We had a lot of growth over the weekend with the team and by position. The scores show some of the growth, but there is a lot more happening with the execution and team. We knew this would be tough to have so many new players and only two weeks to get organized to play against good competition." Said Head Coach Joel List

"I give kudos to the team for having a competitive spirit all weekend, and that spirit will take us to our first win," concluded Coach List

Bailey Nichols was named to the All-Tournament Team
