DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Basketball team suffered a close loss to Chadron State College, 53-68, on Saturday afternoon at Regis Field House. The Rangers fall to 0-9 (0-6 RMAC), while the Eagles rise to 1-10 (1-5 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kate Gallery opened the scoring for Regis with a step-back jumper, followed by a layup from
Jessica Bollwahn off a pass from Caitlin Turnbow. Gallery then added two free throws and a jumper to give the Rangers an early 8–5 advantage. Chadron State responded with a three-pointer and a layup to take the lead, but Bollwahn drained a buzzer-beating triple to push Regis back in front 13–12 heading into the second quarter.
Neither team scored for the first two minutes of the second frame until the Eagles broke through with a layup and a three. Turnbow answered with a turnaround jumper,
Kaylin Venick followed with a layup, and
Mary Crossland knocked down a three, but the Rangers still trailed 23–20. Bollwahn added a pull-up jumper and Gallery sank a pair of free throws to close the half with Regis behind 26–24.
Chadron State came out strong in the third quarter, scoring the first six points before Gallery buried a three to stop the run. Bollwahn added a free throw, and Turnbow turned a defensive rebound into a fast-break layup, but the Eagles continued to build momentum, pulling ahead 42–30. Gallery scored the next four points and Crossland hit another three, but Regis entered the fourth quarter trailing 53–39.
Turnbow opened the final quarter with a free throw and a layup, and Bollwahn added another layup to bring the Rangers within nine. However, the Eagles answered with a layup and free throws to stretch the margin back out. Gallery connected on a late three, but Regis could not complete the comeback, falling 68–53.
GAME NOTES
Gallery led all Rangers with 20 points and Bollwahn added 12 points.
Turnbow recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Venick dished four assists.
Turnbow also had three steels.
