DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team hosted Chadron State College (Neb.) in an RMAC bout on Saturday afternoon, losing, 66-68. The Rangers fall to 1-11 (0-6 RMAC), while the Eagles climb to 3-11 (1-5 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Luke Soden scored the first point of the match for Regis, hitting one from the charity stripe, but CSC would jump out to a 7-1 lead. The teams would trade baskets, scoring on seven straight possessions, including a three from Soden, a turnaround from Matt Yost, and a Dylan Forbord layup. Following a scoring drought, Chadron went up 19-10, but Gunner Walters assisted Logan Flores-Peoples on a triple to get RU back on the board. Soden was able to block an Eagle's attempt, while Walters found Forbord for a hook shot in the post. The Rangers ended the half with three threes from Walters, Yost, and Soden, but Chadron beat the halftime buzzer to lead, 35-24.
Soden connected on a jumper and layup coming out of the break, but CSC was quickly able to push their advantage back to double digits. Soden's three and Flores-Peoples floater interrupted an Eagle's run, and Cooper Frith's three-pointer brought the game back to a single-digit deficit. Yost earned a steal, and the Rangers stayed hot from downtown, getting buckets from Soden, Flores-Peoples, Walters, and Yost, but Chadron ad an answer each time. Walters started a run with two from the free throw line, with Soden scoring six straight, punctuated by a dunk, to bring the score to 61-62 with a minute left. Trailing by three with 10 seconds left, Yost had a look from deep, but came up short. After two free throws by Chadron, Walters connected on a heave from beyond half court, but Regis still fell, 66-68.
