DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team continued their winning ways this weekend as they rolled to their eleventh straight victory this afternoon with a 1-0 shutout over Colorado Christian University at the Regis Turf Fields.
Regis improves their record to 12-2 (8-0 RMAC) while still being the only team in the conference who's undefeated in conference play and has over 10 wins overall on the season.
This 11-game winning streak is also the longest winning streak in program history since 2004 when the Rangers won 15 in a row.
CCU dropped to 2-8-4 (1-6-1 RMAC) with the loss with Regis now winning eight times in the last 10 matchups between the two schools.
The Rangers, who are coming off a 2-1 victory over fellow Mile High City school MSU Denver this past Friday, scored just one time in today's match but were able to execute staunch defense the rest of the way which kept the Cougars off the board.
That lone score came in the 24th minute of play when Paula Igual knocked in her sixth goal of the season on a takeaway from a Cougar defender to which she hammered into the top left corner of the net.
Both teams recorded just four shots apiece in the first half before a combined 20 were managed in the second half with CCU ultimately ending the game owning a 15-13 shot advantage.
The Cougars had eight shots on goal to lead that category as well but were met by terrific play in the net by Maggie Payne who recorded eight saves on every attempt against her.
Payne and the Ranger defense recorded their eighth shutout of the season to end the game with the Rangers still having allowed the second fewest goals by any team in conference play.
In addition, the Rangers how now recorded at least one shutout per week for five straight weeks this year.
