Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rangers keep win streak alive in 1-0 victory over Skyhawks

DURANGO, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team escaped with a road win to keep the winning streak alive this afternoon as they took down Fort Lewis College 1-0 in a battle-tested game at Dirks Field.

The Rangers, who still have the longest winning streak in the nation, have now won 13 in a row, with their record sitting at 14-2 overall and 10-0 in RMAC play. They move the Skyhawks' record to 9-3-2 (6-3 RMAC) with Regis also snapping their five-game winning streak.

Fort Lewis is one of just five teams to have already clinched a spot in the RMAC Tournament as well.

In the heavily defensive game this afternoon, both teams played to a scoreless first half of action before the Rangers were able to find the net in the 60th minute and defend that narrow lead the rest of the way.

The first half featured 11 shots total with FLC owning the 7-4 advantage, but thanks to stellar play in the net from Maggie Payne she saved all five attempts on target.

The second half looked to be the same story but in the 60th minute Fernanda Rodriguez broke the stalemate with her knocking in the ball from nearly 10 yards away and past a one-on-one opportunity with the Skyhawks' goalkeeper.

Her lead was just enough offense to put the Skyhawks away as they only got off two more shots on goal in the final 30 minutes with Payne saving both of those shots as well.

Rodriguez now sits at 16 total goals on the year to rank second in the RMAC with Payne also being a top goalkeeper in the RMAC with her 68 saves leading the conference.

Regis University has 30 points total in conference play this season to lead all teams with them needing one more win to win the regular season conference title or at least clinch a share of it with a tie.
