Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rangers Blank Griffins in 3-0 Win

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team continued their torrid start to conference play this evening as they shutout Westminster University 3-0 in the Rangers return home to the Regis Turf Fields.

The Rangers have now moved their win streak to eight in a row this season while remaining undefeated in conference play. They hold an overall record of 9-2 while sitting at 5-0 to lead the RMAC.

Westminster University moves to 3-2-2 (1-2-2 RMAC) with the defeat with the three goals given up being the most against an opponent all season as they came into today have giving up only one goal prior. They ranked top 10 in the nation in goals against average as well.

Regis now owns the top scoring offense in conference games with 18 goals total scored and being tied for the most overall in the conference at 30.

In the victory tonight, the Rangers' top scorers in Fernanda Rodriguez and Paula Igual were both responsible for goals with Brooke Castillo adding the other.

The score by Castillo was the game-winning goal in the first half with Igual and Rodriguez then tacking on the others in the second half to put away the Griffins.

Castillo knocked her score in during the 37th minute of play with her being able to intercept a defender's pass and then beat the opposing goalkeeper on a one-on-one opportunity.

Igual added her goal in the 48th minute just after half in a similar fashion with her beating a defender in close range as well and then hammering the ball in from less than five yards away.

Rodriguez's goal in the 64th minute came with a little more razzle dazzle as she received a pass down field from Brooklyn Bailey and won a foot race past two defenders with her ultimately booting the ball in from the left side of the net.

Bailey earned her first point of the season with the assist.

All three of the scorers in the game only took one shot apiece with seven different players shooting once.

Despite the lopsided victory, the Griffins outshot Regis 11-7 in the contest but struggled to find any good looks as every attempt on goal was saved by Maggie Payne.

Payne finished with eight saves bringing her season total to 43 while also earning her second solo shutout on the year.
