DURANGO, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team, ranked #17 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, defeated Fort Lewis College, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers climb to 10-3-3 (7-1-1 RMAC), while the Skyhawks drop to 9-5-2 (6-3 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers took the first four shots of the contest, including a pair of shots on goal from Liam Corr. FLC didn't take their first shot for over 17 minutes of game time, and that was followed by a 15-minute drought, without a shot by either team. Jan Grillitsch broke that with a free kick shot that was saved, but Johan Murillo converted on the rebound with a nearly uncontested goal. There would be only one more shot the rest of the half, and RU took the 1-0 lead into the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Corr sent a pass on the ground into the box, finding Francisco Ruiz, who squared up and squared away the goal in the bottom right corner. The rangers defense held the Skyhawks for a long time until the 69th minute, when they were able to sneak a shot past Zach Jennings, brining the game back within one. However, less than two minutes later, Corr got the insurance goal back, as the goalie challenged a pass, but Corr found the loose ball and found the back of the net.
