Rangers Battle Grizzlies in Gritty Match

DENVER, Colo – The Regis University Volleyball team dropped a competitive match, 0-3 (29-31, 18-25, 26-28) to Adams State University in the Regis Fieldhouse on Saturday evening. The Rangers fall to 2-15 (1-5 RMAC), while the Grizzlies improve to 10-8 (4-2 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Alayna Pruitt and Sabrina Landman led the offense to start the match, and a Grizzly error tied the match at 10-10. Jacie Kaniho added the offense, while Morgan Munro aced a serve to tie the match at 16 apiece. Trailing by four late, Pruitt put down a kill, and the teams traded points before Kaniho started a 4-0 run to even the score at 24. Polzin stopped ASU on set point, and Pruitt put Regis on the brink again, but Adams won, 31-29.

The Grizzlies sprinted out to a 10-2 lead before Kaniho started to supply the offense. Pruitt and Kailyn Polzin added to the attack as RU scored three straight. Landman started another short late run, including kills from Kaniho and Munro. The two assisted a block and Munro aced a serve, but ASU took the set, 25-18.

Pruitt led the offense early in the third frame, while Krissy Brei added an ace. Kendal Allaire put down a kill followed by block assists with Polzin and Landman. She added back-to-back kills late to go up, 21-13, but Adams started to battle back. Landman interrupted their run, but the game would still be tied at 26-26, and ASU won the match, 28-26.

GAME NOTES

·        Pruitt and Kaniho both recorded 11 kills, with Kaniho hitting .526

·        Shaver recorded a 16-dig, 15-assist double-double

·        Lynett dished 19 assists

·        Cady Knight led all players with 24 digs

·        Allaire had four blocks

The Rangers go on the road next weekend for away matches at UCCS and MSU-Denver.
