RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Regis University men's cross country team raced in their first event of the postseason this morning as they took 12th place at the RMAC Cross Country Championships at Hart Ranch.
The Rangers took home a team score of 353 in the race with their 12th place finish being one spot better than they were predicted in the preseason poll.
In addition, this is their best team finish in 11 years with them last finishing in 12th place in 2015.
A total of six members from the university competed in the race today with Liam Chavez leading that bunch as he took home 56th place finishing in 25:35.1.
Quinn McKnight followed him in 62nd place at 25:43.7 while Sterling Sharpe rounded out the top three in 93rd place at 26:37.9.
The Ranger's final three racers all finished within five spots of each other as Jace Ketcham took 112th at 27:11.0, Carson Schuler placed 114th at 27:15.8 and Cole Oese finished in 117th at 27:25.4.
The team's top five finishers' scores were counted to the team score.
Chavez's top finish for the Rangers was his third team being the team's leading racer this season as well.
Both Chavez and Schuler would also improve on their times from last year's RMAC Championships with Chavez shaving off almost three minutes and Schuler improving by almost 10 seconds.
Adams State won the team title with 33 total points and four finishers in the top 10 while Colorado School of Mines had the race's individual winner in Dawson Gunn.
