DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team opened RMAC play at home on Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to Colorado Mesa University, 2-3 and 7-11. The Rangers fall to 1-7 (0-2 RMAC), while the Mavericks improve to 3-7 (2-0 RMAC).
GAME ONE
Both teams left a runner on in the first inning, and the Rangers earned the first run of the game in the bottom of the second after Isabella Porter was walked and came home on an error. The Mavericks got another two on base in the third, but RU got out of the jam without damage again. Jessica Isbell singled to lead off the third, but was left on second.
CMU scored their first run in the fourth on an RBI single, and while Angelina Romero-Barros and Natasha Ellison recorded back-to-back singles, no Ranger reached home. Hallie Crappell struck out two batters to retire Mesa in the fifth, while Porter's double brought in Olivia Wick for the 2-1 lead. However, an error in the seventh allowed two runs to score, giving CMU the one-run lead. Isbell was walked, and Wick singled, bringing the tying run into scoring position, but two straight outs ended the game.
GAME NOTES
· Wick went 2-3, scoring one run
· Five other Rangers had a single hit
· Crappell (L, 0-2) threw the full game, striking out two
· Brynn Escobar had two hits for Mesa
· Sophia Tassinari (W, 2-2) had three K's in the complete game win
GAME TWO
CMU started the late game strong, scoring two runs on a two-out homer. After a Kiauna Smith single in the bottom of the first, Mesa added two more runs in the second with an RBI single and double. The Mavericks scored another in the third as the Rangers were turning a double play. However, in the fourth, Regis got on the board as Wick recorded a lead-off double, and was batted in by Jane Quinn. Ingram then homered, brining the score to 5-3.
The Mavericks responded in the top of the fifth with a lead-off double, an RBI single, and two back-to-back doubles, going up 8-3. RU rallied again in the sixth with two straight singles, and a walk to lead the bases. Bella Bordine singled, bringing home Ingram and Jane Quinn, and Eleanor Sikora found home on an error. Micha Pittman scored the Rangers' seventh run on a Mesa error.
The final inning saw three more Colorado Mesa runs, scored on four hits. Smith singled in the bottom of the frame, and Wick was walked, but Regis was unable to complete the comeback.
GAME NOTES
· Ingram went 2-2, scoring two runs and batting in two

· Smith and Quinn posted two more hits apiece
· Cailynn Parsons went 2-3, scoring two and batting in another for Mesa
· Eliza Legge (L, 1-1) recorded the loss, while Sophia Garcia earned two strikeouts in relief
· Marisa Nehm (W, 1-2) threw 6.0 innings with two strikeouts
