DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team played to a dominant 3-0 shutout this evening as they secured an opening day victory over East Central University at the Regis Turf Fields.
The Rangers, who are playing the first of eight straight home games to start their season, won by a three-goal margin in the contest after taking the lead in 16th minute and never looking back.
They scored just once in the first half before adding two more goals in the second as they outshot the Tigers 17-3 while also owning the corner kick advantage, 4-2.
This is now the second year in a row the Rangers have won their season opener. In addition, this is the team's first shutout over an opponent since Oct. 24th against Western Colorado in 2025.
Scoring the Rangers' first goal of the season was transfer Blake Plummer in the 16th minute when she was assisted by Elsa Nolen on a corner kick. Plummer received the ball inside the penalty box on her score in which she headed in while falling to the ground.
The rest of the half remained scoreless after as just a total of six combined shots were managed in the first half with only two of them being on goal, both by the Rangers.
Roughly 20 minutes of play went by in the second half before the Rangers attacked again with them, scoring twice in the matter of two minutes.
Paige Davis scored the first of those two goals in the 65th minute with her scoring in similar fashion to Plummer after she received a cross pass from the sideline and knocked the ball in from short range.
Freshman Addysen Gasser was responsible for the assist on her score with that being her first point and assist of her collegiate career.
Gasser continued her debut by then doing the scoring just over a minute later in the 66th minute on a ricocheted bounce off the goalpost.
Gasser was able to connect after a Davis shot was saved by the Tiger goalkeeper and the ball then rolled and bounced back into play off the post.
Riding the momentum, the Rangers then held onto the lead for the final 24 minutes of play as they held the Tigers to just one more shot.
26 different players saw the field for Regis while both goalkeepers of Maggie Payne and Helen Stegner combined in the net. Neither were forced to make a save though, as zero of the Tigers' shots were on goal.
The group of Paula Igual, Quinn Quinabo, Madisyn Meyers, Davian Dix and Lexie Hinton all made their Ranger debuts in the game as well.
Regis will be back in action this Saturday next when they take on Rollins College at 11 am at the Regis Turf Fields. Streaming can be found through the RMAC Network.
