KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches have released their Week Three Top 25 Coaches Poll, with the Rangers returning to the ranks at #17.
The Rangers were #20 in the Week 1 poll, and received votes last week. This is the Rangers first time in the teens since they were #18 in 2017, and the highest they've been voted since 2016, when they started at #12 and peaked at #5.
Regis continued the toughest schedule in the nation to start the year, with their fourth and fifth straight matches against ranked opponents, hosting #2 Seattle Pacific (now #11) and #14 Western Washington (#24) over the weekend.
RU handed the Falcons their first loss of the season, winning 3-1. Michael Ajagbe and Joakim Gunnar both scored their first goals in the Navy and Gold, while Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar added his second score of the season. Liam Corr, Blaise Richard, Tom Devonport, and Jan Grillitsch all recorded assists in the match, while Zach Jennings totaled three saves.
On Sunday, the Rangers and Vikings drew a 1-1 tie. Corr and Grillitsch executed a perfect give-and-go off a corner kick in the 12th minute, but WWU evened the score in the 30th. RU outshot Western Washington, 25-4, and took eight more corner kicks. Jennings picked up one more save.
Jennings and Corr were recognized as the RMAC's Goalkeeper and Offensive Player of the week, respectively, and now the Rangers look ahead to Westminster University and #3 UCCS for non-RMAC matches before conference play starts next week.
