DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team returned to the win column this afternoon as they defeated St. Edward's University 2-1 at the Regis Turf Fields.
The Rangers snap a two-game losing streak with this victory as they now move to 2-2 overall while dropping the Hilltoppers to 0-2-1. Regis has also now won three straight matchups against St. Edward's.
With the win, the Rangers are now 1-1 against in-region opponents so far this fall as St. Edward's and Dallas Baptist both hail from the Lone Star Conference which is also apart of the South Central Region with the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
In today's contest a staggering 39 combined shots were taken between the two teams with St. Edward's narrowly owning the 20-19 advantage but being outshot on goal by Regis, 10-8.
Both teams scored once in the first half to make it one apiece, before the Rangers were able to take the lead in the second half and never look back.
A flurry of shots in the 11th minute allowed the Hilltoppers to get on the board first when they connected on a goal by Riley Sisson who was able to score after a pair of saves led to a ricochet back into play.
The Hilltoppers held that lead for just 17 minutes though as the Rangers were able to get one back in the 28th minute thanks to some bad luck by the St. Edward's defense.
The Rangers' score came on a cross attempt to in front of the net by Elsa Nolen, in which the Hilltopper's defense accidently headed the ball the wrong direction leading to an own goal.
Even at one apiece now, the rest of the first half featured six more shots before hitting the intermission.
The first 30 minutes of the second half featured more shooting from both squads but no results until the Rangers finally broke the stalemate in the 76th minute.
After a beautiful pass from near the sideline into the penalty area from Paula Igual, Renata Larracilla was able to find the back of the net on a one-on-one attempt versus the Hilltoppers' goalkeeper.
Her goal was just the first of her career here at Regis University while Igual's assist was her first in the navy blue and gold as well.
Following the Ranger's go-ahead goal, they were able to play strong defense for the final 14 minutes as they only allowed one more shot on goal which was saved.
Nine different players ended up taking a shot for the Rangers while Igual led the team with five herself.
In the net, Maggie Payne set a new career-high in saves with seven while earning her second decision of the season.

Staying at home for their final two nonconference matchups, Regis will be back in action next on September 10th and 13th when they take on the opponents of Saint Martin's University and University of Nebraska-Kearney.
