Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University volleyball team defeated the Westminster College Griffins in three sets to move to an overall record of 7-7 and 3-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Rangers were in sync on both offense and defense outhitting the Griffins 43-23, recording 15 more digs, 60-45 and holding the visitors to a .039 attack percentage. The 0.39 attack percentage is the second lowest RU has held an opponent to thus far this season.
Regis produced their most efficient set in the first with a .344 attack percentage. The Rangers jumped out on the Griffins early, 6-1, and comfortably came to a 25-17 first set win.
Westminster held their only lead of the match early in the second set, 3-2, until RU regained a slight one-point lead. WC battled to tie the score seven more times before the Rangers slowly started pulling away. The Griffins utilized a timeout at 20-16 in an attempt to shift the momentum but Regis closed out the second set 25-17.
The score tied twice early on in the third set but, again, the Rangers continued frustrating the Griffins to ultimately push the lead further out of reach, 16-8. The match-leader on the night,
Katie Klein, finished off Westminster recording her 12
th kill to give RU the 25-13 straight set victory.
Klein tallied her 11
th match of double-digit kills hitting at a clip of .250. Freshmen Yagoda Jedzrejczak and
Kelsey Green added eight kills apiece and three of the teams four blocks.
Kristina Schell recorded 15 digs and chipped in with two service aces while
Silvia Basso assisted on 25 points and had two service aces of her own.
The Rangers will host RMAC leader and No. 16 Colorado Mines (12-2, 6-0 RMAC) Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
