Rangers make it seven-straight with 3-0 win over Fort Lewis

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Different members of the Regis University volleyball team keep stepping up, this time, Caitlyn Martinez had herself a career night helping the Rangers to a 3-0 win over the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (4-14, 3-7 RMAC).

Regis experienced rocky starts at the beginning of the first and second sets. The Skyhawks jumped out to an early 4-1 lead but the Rangers refocused to take a 5-4 lead with three straight kills from match-leader Katie Klein. Fort Lewis did not back down battling to regain control of a slight 11-10 lead. The score would tie four more times but a service ace from Kristina Schell put RU ahead 1-0 with the 25-23 win.

The Rangers found themselves fighting from behind again at the start of the second set. Regis was forced to call a timeout at 11-5 in hopes of slowing down the FLC attack. RU bounced back rattling off five straight to come within one of the visitors, 14-13.

A kill from Maggie Steward gave the Rangers their first lead in the second set, 18-17. RU would not relinquish control again as they went ahead 2-0 in the match with the 25-19 second set win.

RU did not waste any time in the third set jumping out to an early 9-3 lead immediately putting the Skyhawks on their heels. The Rangers created too large of a deficit for Fort Lewis to recover as they cruised to a 25-15 third set win making that their second straight three set victory.

Three Rangers produced double-digit kills led by Klein with 16, her 11th straight match of double-digit kills. Klein hit at a season-high clip of .517, committing just one error in 29 attacks.
