RU sweeps Colorado Mesa again, advances in RMAC Tournament

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University volleyball team advanced to the semifinal match of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament with another 3-0 sweep of the Colorado Mesa Mavericks (18-8, 12-6 RMAC).
 
The Rangers produced their second-highest hitting percentage of the season at .408 putting down 49 kills to the Mavericks 28. Regis started a bit slow in the first set but answered back with a couple of strong kills by Katie Klein and Maggie Steward. The Mavericks took a timeout after Yagoda Jedrzejczak finessed an impressive kill to make the score 17-13 in favor of RU.
 
Hattie Gianinetti brought the visitors giving them a much needed kill to keep the set tightly contested. Klein smashed a kill into Colorado Mesa territory to push Regis into set point. The Rangers put the first set away with the 25-18 win.
 
The second set began in a competitive fashion as the two teams went back-and-forth. The Mavericks called a timeout down 13-9 in an attempt to slow down the Rangers. Regis was not phased and quickly extended their led to six. Klein continued her set-ending kill trend by giving RU a 25-19 second set victory.
 
The Rangers stayed hot as they opened up the third set with an early 5-2 lead. Regis sat with an 18-11 lead and completed dominated in the final minutes of the third set. RU rallied seven-straight to close out the sweep 25-11. Regis recorded a .533 hitting percentage in the third set committing just two errors in 30 attempts.
 
Katie Klein and Diamond Ridley-Pierce led offensively each recording 11 kills on the night. Klein committed just one error in 24 attempts to hit at a clip of .417. Ridley-Pierce produced her most efficient offensive night with a .444 hitting percentage. Maggie Steward added a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Jedrzejczak led RU defensively recording six blocks on the night. Kristina Schell chipped in with 14 digs.
 
Regis will face No. 1 seeded MSU Denver on Friday, November 18 at 7 p.m. MSU Denver will host the remaining semifinal and championship matches of the RMAC Tournament.
