Box Score DENVER, Colo. – While most people are back home for the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Regis University men's basketball team was hard at work on Friday evening as they welcomed the Bloomfield College Bears (2-3) to the Regis Fieldhouse.
Regis (5-0) improved their impressive start, winning their fifth game in a row to begin the 2016-17 season. This marks the best start for the Rangers since the 1995-96 season, when the team was a part of the Colorado Athletic Conference (CAC).
RU used a 9-0 run to jump out in front of the Bears, 11-2, in the first four minutes of the game. Two minutes later, Regis found themselves ahead 16-7, and that is when BC began mounting a small comeback. The visitors battled back and took their first lead of the game with seven minutes left in the half.
A 9-0 run gave the Bears a 29-21 lead with two minutes remaining in the second half. The Rangers got back to what was giving them success early in the game and a three-pointer from sophomore
Ryan Beisty, a layup from junior
Dexter Sienko and a layup from redshirt-junior
Troy Anderson II with one second remaining brought RU within two points heading into halftime.
Midway through the second half, Regis clung to a 54-49 lead after a made three-pointer from senior
Noah King. With six minutes to go, the home team trailed by three points, 61-58, but they were not done fighting. Thanks to their dominance inside, scoring 38 of their points in the paint, the team came back to seal the deal late, 82-74. Sienko was a major part of the success in the paint as he went for a career-high 27 points (11-18 FG, 5-9 FT) and grabbing five rebounds.
Anderson II was a monster on the glass, tracking down eight offensive rebounds, on his way to 10 on the night. Beisty had a brilliant all-around game as he snatched a career-high 11 rebounds in the game, adding nine points and leading the team in assists with four. Junior
Kevin Metoyer scored 20 points, and King added 11 to help the Rangers to their fifth straight win.
Tomorrow night, Davis and Elkins College (0-4) will pay a visit to the Regis Fieldhouse as Regis wraps up their non-conference schedule with the game set to begin at 5 p.m. The Rangers will begin their conference schedule on the road against Colorado Christian University (3-2) on Friday, December, 2 at 7 p.m. followed by an early season confrontation with the Colorado School of Mines (4-1) on Saturday, December 3 at 7 p.m.
