Box Score DENVER, Colo. – In the championship match of the silver bracket, the Regis University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (24-26, 17-25, 14-25) loss to the No. 6 University of Central Missouri Jennies.
The Rangers battled from the get go exchanging point-for-point with the Jennies throughout the length of the first set. After several lead changes and ties, Regis pulled ahead to set point 24-23. Central Missouri matched a kill from
Maggie Steward with a kill of their own, 24-24. RU could not put a final rally together as the Jennies took the last two points on RU attack errors to go ahead 1-0.
The beginning of the second set mirrored the first until Central Missouri pulled away to an 11-6 lead. Points late in the set proved to be too late by Regis dropping behind in the match 2-0.
The Rangers ran out of steam throughout the third set as the Jennies held a 14-8 lead forcing an RU timeout. As Regis would shave off points from the lead Central Missouri always seemed to have an answer defeating the Rangers 25-14 in three-straight sets.
Katie Klein and
Yagoda Jedrzejczak combined for 18 kills at nine a piece. Jedrzejczak hit at a season-high clip of .438 and Klein at .241. The Rangers closed out the Colorado Premier Challenge weekend with a 2-2 split moving to an overall record of 4-4 heading into conference action.
Regis opens Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play at MSU Denver on Friday, September 16 at 7 p.m.
