Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University volleyball team was competitive against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (6-4, 1-1 RMAC) but dropped 3-1 in back-to-back Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches.

The Rangers experienced another slow start in the RMAC showdown with the Mountain Lions, Saturday evening. The score tied at 5-5 early in the first set but UCCS rallied off five-straight to hold the lead.

With a Mountain Lion set point on the line, 24-21, Regis scored point-after-point attempting to claw their way back from the slow start deficit. A 6-2 run late in the set held UCCS at bay and brought the Rangers within one, 24-23. The Mountain Lions used a timeout with the verge of set one going to RU but a final kill put Regis behind in the match, 25-23.

In the second set, the Rangers fought back from a 7-4 deficit to lead 11-9 lead over UCCS. From this point on, the score tied ten times as each team exchanged control of the lead. Regis sat at set point, 24-22, with a chance to even out the sets but the Mountain Lions dug deep. The Rangers let the second set slip away competing at the end but unable to completely shut down the UCCS attack to fall behind 2-0 with the 28-26 loss.

A stronger start to the third set put RU ahead 9-7 but fight from the Mountain Lions forced Regis to perform or go home early. Both teams went point-for-point with neither one allowing the other to gain any momentum until the Rangers broke free and captured their first win of the match, 25-20, to send it to a fourth set.

Play throughout the fourth set matched that of the other sets. UCCS controlled a slight 15-12 lead but RU fought back tying the score at 17-17. The score would see three more ties, 20-20, until the Mountain Lions pulled away for the final time. The Rangers held the home team at set point as they tried to overcome the deficit but fell short dropping the fourth set 25-21.

UCCS committed 11 unforced service errors to the Rangers four but made up for those missed points outhitting RU 64-56.
Katie Klein tied her career-high with 23 kills while hitting at a clip of .319 being the main source of points in the Regis attack.
Diamond Ridley-Pierce matched a season-high of ten kills and a .226 attack percentage.

Yagoda Jedrzejczak recorded three stuffs at the net, two of which were solo blocks and
Kristina Schell kept 20 plays alive. Breaking a season-high from last night,
Silvia Basso assisted on 39 kills.

The Rangers return to Denver for a five-game home stint hosting Colorado Mesa (7-2, 1-0 RMAC) Friday, September 23 at 7 p.m.
