Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University volleyball team experienced a setback suffering a 3-0 loss to the Western State Mountaineers (7-5, 3-2 RMAC) Saturday evening in the Regis Fieldhouse.
The Rangers were out of sync whereas the Mountaineers played with fire and energy jumping out to an early match lead with a 25-20 first set win. Ten unforced service errors enabled Regis to gain any sort of offensive momentum.
RU found some rhythm in the second set holding a 12-6 lead over the visitors. Western State rallied off four-straight points to come within one, 16-15. The Mountaineers surged at the end of the second set putting the Rangers back on their heels and falling behind 2-0 in the 25-21 loss.
With hopes of keeping the match alive, Regis battled in the third set but ultimately Western State was able to pull of the sweep.
Katie Klein led the Rangers with 12 kills and a .269 attack percentage.
Kelsey Green chipped in with nine kills and two service aces.
RU will remain on their home court hosting Chadron State on Tuesday, September 27 at 5 p.m.
