Box Score DENVER, Colo. – After their dominating 2-0 victory over Newman University in the home opener, the Regis University men's soccer team (2-0-0) took to the road and headed west to battle Humboldt State University (1-1-1), coming away with the 1-0 victory, on the campus of Cal State-East Bay.
The opening half of play went scoreless, but it was not for the lack of effort on the part of Regis. From the get-go, the Rangers attacked and attacked, taking nine shots but only putting three of them on target.
On the defensive end, RU stifled nearly all of the home team's offense as they only managed to take one shot in the first 45 minutes. Despite the effort on both ends from Regis, the teams remained in a stalemate heading into halftime.
In the second half, the same narrative held true. The Rangers continued to attack and pelt the goalkeeper with shots. In the 72

Jacob Martinez connected on a header, slotting it past the keeper in the bottom right corner of the net, giving RU a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore
Noah Chapleski picked up the assist as he played a beautiful ball into the middle of the box that allowed Martinez the opportunity to score. Defensively, Regis continued to hold their ground, only allowing four shots (two on goal) in the second half.
Senior
Ciaran Gibson (1-0) made his first start for RU and came out with a clean sheet, facing five shots and making three saves on all three balls that the Lumberjacks put on frame. For the second straight game, and for 180 consecutive minutes, the Regis defense has not given up a goal.
The men's soccer team will now have a couple of days before they return to the same match pitch to face Cal State-East Bay on Saturday, September 10 at 7 p.m.
