Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer loses 2-1 to Fort Lewis

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team (6-5, 4-5 RMAC) lost 2-1 to the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (6-3-4, 6-1-2 RMAC) on Friday evening.

How It Happened: Within the first seven minutes, it looked like Regis was going to upset the visiting Skyhawks, controlling much of the game and creating a lot of opportunities. In the sixth minute, sophomore Luca Kother was able to sneak into the box and get on the end of a play, striking the ball into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.

Four minutes and two seconds later, the Rangers' defense gave up a free-kick right around 25 yards from the goal. FLC stepped up and drilled the set-piece into the net for the equalizer. Two goals in 10 minutes set the pace for a very entertaining and competitive game. Just after the 29th minute started, the visitors began a counter-attack that picked apart the RU defense. At the end of the attack, the Skyhawks scored their second goal to take a 2-1 lead.

The lead remained at halftime and both benches were feeling the pressure to either find the tying goal, or extend the lead. Each team came out with a redefined purpose, and the second half was under way. Regis took the first six shots of the half until FLC finally had theirs in the 74th minute. It was clear that the Rangers had taken the momentum back, but they just could not capitalize and the game ended 2-1 in favor of the Skyhawks.

Game Notes: The final shot tally was 14-9 in favor of the home squad who also managed more shots on goal, and corners 4-3, respectively. A total of 33 fouls were called with three yellow cards for FLC, and five yellow cards and one red card for RU. Five different Regis players had two shots apiece with Kother scoring the lone goal. Freshman Caleb Larson picked up the assist on the play which is his third of the season.

Up next for the Rangers: The men's soccer team will return home for a match against the Adams State University Grizzlies (6-5-1, 3-4-1 RMAC) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. before hitting the road for the second half of the home and home series' with the Skyhawks and Grizzlies the following weekend.
