DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team (6-6, 4-6 RMAC) lost a heartbreaker to the Adams State University Grizzlies (7-6-1, 4-5-1 RMAC) 1-0 in an overtime thriller on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened: The first half concluded without anyone breaking the 0-0 silence. Regis enjoyed a 7-4 shot advantage, putting two of their shots on goal and earning six corner kicks and conceding only one.
The Rangers and Grizzlies fought for another 45 minutes leading to yet another scoreless half. Each defense worked to prevent any offensive opportunities, while each offense threw everything they had at the opposing defenses. The shot count rose to 18-15, but this time ASU enjoyed the advantage.
After 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, the game headed into the first half of overtime. Unlike the first two periods of play, the game needed only 42 seconds to find a victor. As the Grizzlies were attacking, ASU was awarded a foul inside the box and consequently earned a penalty kick. Ruben Molinar stepped up, driving the ball into the right side of the net as goalkeeper

Game Notes: The final shot tally went 19-15 tilting towards the visitors, but the corner kick battle went 12-1 for RU, but in the end, it was the final foul of the game that proved critical. Sophomore
Oliver Haines led the team with our shots, putting two of them on goal. Gibson made six saves, facing 18 shots in 90:42 in between the sticks.
Up Next for the Rangers: The men's soccer team will finish their home and home set with Fort Lewis College and Adams State as they venture to Durango, Colo. on Friday to face the Skyhawks at 3 p.m. Two days later the team will visit the Grizzlies for a match at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22.
