Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Skyhawks get the best of Rangers 1-0

DURANGO, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team (6-7, 4-7 RMAC) went on the road to face the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (7-4-4, 5-2-2 RMAC) on Friday afternoon, losing the contest 1-0 despite owning advantages in shots, shots on goal and corner kicks.

How It Happened: Both teams took two shots in the first 14 minutes of the match, followed by three shots in a row for the Rangers. Freshman John Halter had his shot saved, freshman Eric Peter's attempt was blocked, and senior Sawyer Lincoln sent his shot wide right.

After 45 minutes of play, the score remained deadlocked 0-0. RU put together an attack in the early minutes of the half, but the Skyhawks responded with a quick counter-attack, leading to a corner kick in the 48th minute. Nothing came of the corner, but the home squad continuedtheir push. FLC's Raul Pescador broke the silence in the 52nd minute, putting the Skyhawks in front 1-0.

On the ensuing kick-off, Regis pressed high and earned a corner kick, giving them an opportunity to respond to the goal. Lincoln had his shot blocked and the team once again earned a corner kick. This time the attempt fizzled out and the teams continued to work their way around the pitch.

Three-straight shots and three-straight saves by the FLC goalkeeper kept the visiting team scoreless through 60 minutes played. The Rangers continued to attack, but they just could not find the breakthrough equalizer.

Game Notes: Lincoln led the way with three shots on the night while three others added two shots each. RU held a 14-9 shots advantage putting nine shots on goal to only six for the Skyhawks. Regis earned seven corner kick opportunities, holding the home team to only five. Junior Chase Webert made five saves facing a total of nine shots, allowing only one goal.

Up Next for the Rangers: The men's soccer team will remain on the road as they travel to Alamosa, Colorado on Sunday to face the Grizzlies in a rematch from one week prior. The game is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
