Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Regis earns 2-0 shutout win over South Dakota Mines

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Regis University men's soccer team (6-4, 4-4 RMAC) got back on track with a 2-0 win over the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers (3-5-3, 2-5 RMAC) on Friday night.

How It Happened:  The first 34 minutes were a stalemate as neither team secured a goal. Regis was awarded a penalty kick in the 11th minute, but senior Sawyer Lincoln had his shot saved by the Hardrockers goalkeeper to keep the game tied at zeroes.

The Rangers finally broke through with a goal in the 35th minute when Lincoln sent a pass to sophomore Oliver Haines who drilled his fourth goal of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 lead late as the teams broke for halftime.

Within the first five minutes of the second half, RU earned two corner kicks and had already compiled two shots that challenged the SD Mines defense. The same offensive pressure that the team put on in the opening minutes of the second half gave way to another major opportunity in the 79th minute. Redshirt-freshman Will Eslinger received a pass from redshirt-sophomore Ryan Ebert and struck the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead, putting the nail in the coffin with only eleven minutes to go in the game.

Regis stymied any chances the Hardrockers thought they had by closing out the last 10 minutes for the 2-0 shutout victory.

Game Notes:  Eslinger tallied his team-leading seventh goal of the season, while Haines recorded his first game-winner of the season. Lincoln and Ebert each had an assist and two shots in the match. The final shot count went 12-5 and the corner kick tally was 5-3, both in favor of the Blue and Gold. Graduate student Ciaran Gibson earned his third shutout of the season making one save on five shots faced.

Up Next for the Rangers: The men's soccer team will return home for two games next weekend against the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks on Friday, October 13 followed by a match with the Adams State University Grizzlies on Sunday, October 15th
