Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (16-7, 10-7 RMAC) tamed the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs (10-13, 9-9 RMAC) on Friday night 87-75.
Sophomore
Jarrett Brodbeck (8-15 FG, 5-5 FT) scored a game-high 24 points as junior
Dexter Sienko pours in 23 points (10-17 FG) and grabs seven rebounds.
How It Happened: The Rangers got to work early as they scored the first five points of the game, and later found themselves up 26-19 after a monster dunk from redshirt-junior
Troy Anderson II (4-6 FG, eight points), a layup from Sienko and a jumper from junior
Kevin Metoyer.
RU had a lead as great as nine points, but UCCS fought back into the game and with 30 seconds left in the first half, the home team took a one-point lead, 41-40.
Regis quickly gained the lead back and from that point on they kept their foot on the gas that was sparked by a 9-0 run seven minutes into the second half. The Rangers' lead was extended to 15 points as Brodbeck converted an and-one attempt after being fouled on a layup. He then followed up with two three-pointers to give the team an 85-70 lead with two minutes on the clock.
Tough defense and efficient offense down the stretch helped RU finish the game. Metoyer knocked down free-throws to put the visitors up 17 points at 87-70, which was enough to put away the Mountain Lions in the end.
Game Notes: RU shot 47.9 percent from the field knocking down 35-of-73 shot attempts. Regis held UCCS to 43.5 percent shooting (30-69 FG) on their home floor. 16 of the Rangers' points came on the fast break as they stole the ball 15 times and turned the extra possessions into 21 points on the offensive end. Ryan Beisty pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds and added five points and three assists. Metoyer finished the night with 16 points, two assists and a season-high four steals. Freshman
Christian Little had another good all-around game scoring four points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out a game-high six assists.
Next Up for the Rangers: The men's basketball team will be back in action tomorrow night as they go head-to-head with their cross-town rivals in the Metropolitan State University-Denver Roadrunners (15-9, 11-7 RMAC).
