Box Score 2 GRAND PRAIRIE, Tex. – In the first day of action at the North Texas Bash, the Regis University softball team dropped back-to-back games to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas and the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. The Rangers were narrowly defeated 4-3 by Texas A&M-Kingsville in the first game and 10-1 by the Greyhounds in the second.

Game 1: Emily John, the leadoff batter for RU, doubled to left center to start things off in the top of the first. On two outs,
Carlie Sexton hit a double of her own down the left field line to score John and put the Rangers on the board first, 1-0.

Logan Losh held the Javelinas scoreless in the bottom half of the first retiring the lineup in order. Kingsville put up three on six hits in the bottom of the second to lead 3-1 over Regis.

Cox opened the top of the fifth with a leadoff single to short and worked her way around to third on a wild pitch and a
Melissa Heronema ground out. John tallied the RBI on a fielder's choice that brought Cox across the plate bringing the Rangers within one, 3-2. With one out and runners on first and second, the Javelinas made a pitching change. John advanced to third on a dropped fly ball by the second baseman to then steal home locking the score up at 3-3.

In the top of the seventh, on two outs, John hit her second double of the game to left field but would ultimately be left stranded. The bottom half of the inning saw Kingsville take advantage of a sacrifice bunt that scored the runner on third to end the game on no outs, 4-3.

Game Notes: Cox went 2-for-3 as the designated player for RU while scoring one run. John went 2-for-4 at the plate recording two runs and an RBI. The Javelinas outhit the Rangers 10-6. Regis combined for four doubles and two stolen bases. Losh pitched in all six innings for RU striking out five batters in 29 faced.

Game 2: Once again, the Rangers struck first putting one on the board in the top half of the first as
Alyssa Finger stole home who reached on a single up the middle. The Greyhounds surged in the bottom half of that inning bringing four across to take a 4-1 lead over RU.

Cox and
Breana Pearsall produced back-to-back singles in the top of the second but were left stranded. Regis struggled to gain any sort of offensive momentum retiring in order in the top of the third, fourth and fifth innings. Eastern New Mexico put up three in both the third and fourth to enforce the five-inning run rule.

Game Notes: The Greyhounds had nine hits to just Regis' four.
Taylor Armitage earned the start on the mound for the Rangers with
Cortney Sexton and
Rachel Jones also seeing time. Finger tallied two stolen bases. Finger, Cox and Pearsall each went 1-for-2 at the plate for RU.

Next Up For The Rangers: Regis remains in Texas for the rest of the weekend matching up against Lubbock Christian and Texas Woman's on Saturday, February 11 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
